About CAWM

The Organization

Founded around 20 years ago, the Chinese Association of Western Massachusetts (CAWM) initially aimed to unite local Chinese immigrant families in celebrating traditional holidays together. Over time, these celebrations grew, attracting more families and communities. We discovered that celebrating cultural diversity together not only educates our children about their heritage but also fosters connections among different cultures and communities.

Since officially becoming a non-profit organization in 2013, CAWM has remained committed to enriching the lives of local Chinese American families through cultural events and has expanded into culture education, youth leadership, and community engagement. Our organization operates entirely on volunteer support, from the leadership team to everyone involved. We welcome individuals who wish to give back to join us in our efforts. Reach out to us – we'd love to collaborate with you!

The Community

Initially known only to Chinese American families in the Longmeadow/East Longmeadow areas, CAWM's reach has expanded significantly with the advent of social media. Now, thousands of individuals from across Western Massachusetts, including northern Connecticut residents, participate in our activities, utilize our resources, and benefit from our events.

In recent years, we've launched initiatives to engage more youth in the community, including high school and college students. We're delighted to involve young people in community service, leadership development, and fostering a spirit of giving back, all while deepening their appreciation for their cultural identity.

While the world may seem more challenging than ever, by focusing on our strengths and embracing the differences that make each of us unique, we can create a better world for everyone, anywhere.
